    Netrokona District Police have arrested a young man named Supta Saha Anik for insulting the Holy Prophet (PBUH) on Facebook. On Wednesday (March 05, 2025) morning, DB police arrested him from the Parla bus stand area of ​​Netrokona. Later, he was brought to the Superintendent of Police office.

    It is learned that the arrested Supta Saha Anik was the vice-president of the Fazlul Haque Hall branch of Rajshahi University’s Chhatra League in 2023. He had insulted the Holy Prophet by making abusive comments on Facebook posts at various times. In view of this, devout Muslims have held protest programs at various times.

    Gazi Abdur Rahim, the central assistant secretary general of the Khilafat Movement, filed a case in this incident. Anik is from Kalmakanda Upazila of Netrokona district. He is the son of Sunil Saha of Mantala village.

    It is worth noting that last Thursday, a Facebook ID named Supta Saha Anik made a comment on this Facebook post insulting the Prophet Muhammad. The Facebook post and comment spread across the country within a few hours. Later, a massive protest began on Facebook demanding his trial, and on Friday (February 28) after Jumma prayers at 2 pm, a protest march and rally demanding his arrest were held in the district town and Kalmakanda.

    Khilafat Movement Central Assistant Secretary General Gazi Abdur Rahim told reporters that he has been insulting the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on Facebook for a long time. His insults have hurt the Muslim people of Netrokona and the whole of Bangladesh. In view of that, last Friday we formed a human chain demanding his arrest. Alhamdulillah, we have just heard that he has been arrested. After the arrest, the administration said who will be the plaintiff, I myself have filed a case in his name as the plaintiff.

    Police Superintendent Mirza Sayem Mahmud said that a person named Supta Saha Anik posted or commented on Facebook insulting the Prophet Muhammad, which hurt religious sentiments.     The leaders of the World Hindu Struggle Committee (WHSC) condemned the incident and said that even though people from a particular community constantly make insulting comments about Hindu gods and goddesses in the comment boxes of news portals and on the social media Facebook, the police do not take any action against them. The leaders of the committee urged the administration to treat all criminals with equal respect.
