There have been allegations of tree trunk looting and temple demolition in Safapur Union of Mahadevpur Upazila of Naogaon. However, police say that even though the tree trunk looting is ‘true’, the attack on the temple seems ‘staged’ to them. Mahadevpur Police Station OC Shaheen Reza has given information about the arrest of a person named Fazlur Rahman Bullet in the incident in Ghasiara village.
Ghasiara Sarvajanin Shiv, Durga Temple Committee President Dwijendranath Mandal alleged that about four months ago, he cut down 225 mahogany trees on his land and placed them next to the temple. On Friday (March 28, 2025) morning, about 200 people came with 30 to 40 ‘Bhatbhuti’ and attacked. “They vandalized the temple and idols, looted the trunks worth about 20 lakh taka and fled.”
Dwijendranath alleged that Fazlur Rahman Bullet of Ishwar Lakshmipur village, Amjad Member of Binodpur village, and Nasir Uddin Gong led the attack. Denying the allegations of temple vandalism, Fazlur Rahman Bullet said that the tree trunks were cut from their land and kept there. Today (March 28, 2025), he brought them with people.
OC Shaheen Reza said, “We have inspected the scene. After talking to the locals, we found out that the tree trunk was taken away. “But initially, there was no evidence that the temple or idol was broken. This could be a fabricated allegation to frame the opponent. It could also have happened when the tree trunk was being taken away by a car.
