
Kanti Lal Acharya, the acting headmaster of Haji Tobarak Ali Chowdhury (TAC) High School in Bhatiari, Sitakunda, Chittagong, has been accused of forcing him to sign a resignation letter. The incident took place at the headmaster’s office on Wednesday (April 16, 2025) afternoon. At that time, the teacher broke down in tears. Later, he was sent home in a vehicle. Earlier, a group of local BNP and its affiliated organizations leaders and activists and former students had brought a procession to the school and surrounded the headmaster. Later, it is alleged that he was forced to sign a resignation letter.
Speaking to the school teachers and eyewitnesses, it was learned that the local BNP leaders and activists were angry with the headmaster for taking over the post of president of the ad hoc committee formed to manage the school. The current president of the committee is Mohiuddin Ahmed, who is supported by Jamaat. Due to this, a face-off between Jamaat supporters and BNP leaders and activists arose in this incident. There have also been allegations against BNP leaders and activists of head cracking a relative of Mohiuddin, the current president of the school’s ad hoc committee.
Inspector Sohel Rana, in-charge of the Fauzdarhat police outpost, told Prothom Alo that he went to the spot after receiving news that BNP and Jamaat leaders and activists were taking a stand against the resignation of the headmaster of Bhatiari TAC High School. There was a fear of clashes between the two parties in the school area. They were finally able to normalize the situation. The resignation letter, which was forcibly signed, has gone viral on various social media. The resignation letter reads, “I voluntarily resigned for my personal reasons.” Apart from this one sentence, nothing else was written on the resignation letter.
In this regard, the school’s headmaster, Kanti Lal Acharya, told Prothom Alo that at around 11 am today, he and ad hoc committee president Mohiuddin Ahmed were preparing the school’s future work plan in his own office inside the school. At that time, more than five hundred leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations entered the school with a procession. Then the protesters took him hostage. Later, a person named Nurul Absar wrote a resignation letter in his own hand. The protesters forcibly took his signature on the resignation letter.
According to school sources, Jamaat-backed Mohiuddin Ahmed took charge as the president of the school’s newly formed ad hoc committee last Sunday. He was the member secretary of the school’s alumni reunion council. The Chittagong Education Board approved the chairmanship of the ad hoc committee.
Headmaster Kanti Lal Acharya said that for the election of the president, the Chittagong Education Board had to send the names of three qualified persons. He first sent the names of the three persons to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) office. Then the UNO sent it to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. From there, this list was sent to the Chittagong Education Board. Then the Education Board approved Mohiuddin as the president of the ad hoc committee.
School management committee president Mohiuddin Ahmed told Prothom Alo that he was the member secretary of the school’s alumni reunion committee. As an alumni, he came to improve the school. The Chittagong Education Board nominated him after the headmaster proposed three names. The local BNP leaders and activists could not accept this. As a result, they launched a movement against the headmaster. He informed the UNO and the police about the matter. Later, he filed a general diary with Sitakunda Police Station.
Mohiuddin Ahmed told Prothom Alo that he was involved in Jamaat politics. There was no political issue here. The protesters came and abused him a lot. Hearing that there was trouble inside the school, his relatives also came. At that time, his brother-in-law Md. Faruk’s head was broken in the attack by the protesters. He has been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
In this regard, Bhatiari Union BNP President Nurul Anwar said, Kanti Lal Acharya has been serving as the acting headmaster of the school for a long time. There have been allegations of widespread irregularities against him. For this, leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations held processions and rallies demanding his resignation. The headmaster was forced to resign under pressure from the agitated public. Now an investigation will be conducted against him and necessary action will be taken.
