
Shah Alam, the accused in the rape case of a 6th grade student in Mithapukur Upazila of Rangpur, has been arrested by the police on Tuesday (March 18, 2025) night while fleeing wearing a burqa.
Mithapukur Police Station OC (Investigation) Rafiqul Islam said that on Tuesday (March 18) morning, a 6th grade student named Boby Rani of Chikoli Paschimpara in the Upazila Sadar was taken home from school by Md. Shah Alam (40) of the same village to a secluded place and brutally tortured her. When the girl screamed, Alam ran away. Later, the girl’s mother filed a case with Mithapukur Police Station under the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act.
The OC (Investigation) further said that the police started an operation after the incident. Later, at around 11:30 pm, the accused was arrested from the Rampura Government Primary School in the upazila while wearing a burqa. He also said that the bus ticket to Dhaka was seized from him. The accused said that on the advice of his friend Sohel, he was preparing to flee to Dhaka by wearing his wife’s burqa.
