
A gold merchant was shot dead by miscreants in Hazaribagh in the capital and robbed of 816 grams (70 bhari) of gold and four lakh taka in cash. The injured gold merchant is named Sajal Rajbangshi (37). The incident took place at around 11 pm on Thursday (January 23, 2025) in the Beribandh area of Hazaribagh. He was later rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital. Joy Rajbangshi, the younger brother of injured Sajal Rajbangshi, said that Sajal Rajbangshi is the owner of Eti Jewelers in Kamrangirchar area. On Thursday night, he was returning to his house in Jelepara in Hazaribagh on a motorcycle with 70 bhari of gold and four lakh taka in cash in his bag. On the way, four or five helmeted men who came on a motorcycle in the Beribandh section area of Hazaribagh blocked his path and opened fire. At one point, they shot him in the left leg and fled with the bag he was carrying. Later, he was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in an injured condition and given primary treatment. He has now been admitted to a private hospital.
Kamrangirchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Amirul Islam said, Sajal has a jewelry shop in Ilham Plaza, Kamrangirchar. His house is in Hazaribagh area. Every day, he would come to the shop around 11 am with gold and money, and would take it home at night. On Thursday night, while he was returning home, some people on motorcycles stopped his motorcycle in the Beribandh area. At that time, when he wanted to snatch his bag, the miscreants shot him in the leg and fled with the bag. We have learned from the investigation at the scene that three people on three motorcycles were waiting at the Beribandh traffic box area for at least an hour before the incident. Later, after the gold merchant’s motorcycle left, three motorcycles moved forward. Four more people followed on two more motorcycles. When they reached the spot, they stopped the motorcycles in front and blocked the road, and immediately some people got down and shot and snatched the bag.
