BNP leader MA Hasan has been accused of occupying a shrimp enclosure in Khulna’s Koira. On March 5, 2025, MA Hasan’s people occupied the shrimp enclosure on 75 bighas of land belonging to Biren Mandal in Mathbari Mouza of the upazila. The enclosure owner did not get any cooperation from the local administration in this regard.
Biren Mondal said that a month ago, people from Koyra Sadar on 10-12 motorcycles first tried to demolish his house in the compound. When the locals tried to resist them, they asked him to talk to BNP leader Hassan. When he talked to Hassan at that time, he told Biren Mondal to move away from the compound.
Biren Mondal said, I have 15 bighas of government VP property in my 75 bighas of shrimp enclosure. Which has a DCR in the name of a brave freedom fighter. He leased that land to me. He takes money for that land every year. The BNP leader has seized 75 bighas of land using that land. There are also records of local people there. I cultivate shrimp on that land by paying annual money. Currently, the encroachers are staying in my enclosure. They are also taking away the fish in the enclosure.
Pancha Mandal of Mathbari village complained that his ancestral land of 6 bighas in that enclosure has also been occupied by BNP leader Hasan’s people. Brave freedom fighter Lutfar Rahman complained that he renews his DCR by depositing government revenue every year. He also has a DCR renewal in his name in the current Bengali year. They have violated everything and occupied the land by force.
A former general secretary of Koyra Upazila BNP, who did not want to be named, said, “MA Hasan has been involved in various misdeeds including encroachment of enclosures, canal encroachment, land disputes and harassment in the name of the convenor of the district BNP. Recently, he has participated in sharing with Jamaat on the appointment of dealers for food-friendly programs. If we cannot stop him, the party will suffer locally.”
The issue of occupying Biren Mandal’s compound came up in a view-sharing meeting at the Koyra Upazila BNP office on March 17, 2025. There, Khulna District BNP Joint Convener Momrezul Islam gave a speech warning BNP leaders and activists to refrain from occupying the compound.
When asked, MA Hasan denied the allegations against him and said, “The allegations of involvement in encroachment are not correct. Our leaders and workers were deprived for the last 16 years. Efforts are being made to rehabilitate them. I do not do politics using anyone’s name.” When asked, Khulna district BNP convener Moniruzzaman Montu said, “Organizational action will be taken if any leader or worker engages in encroachment using my name.” Source-Skhobor.com
