Police have arrested two people on charges of raping an SSC examinee after knocking her parents unconscious in Bauphal, Patuakhali. The rape incident took place at around 11 pm on Saturday (February 22) in Chandradwip Union of the upazila. The victim has been sent to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital for a physical examination. The victim’s sick parents have been admitted to Bauphal Upazila Health Complex.
The arrested are Md. Bellal Hossain (25) and Md. Faisal Ahmed (22), who were recently accused in the kidnapping of businessman Shivanand Roy Banik and robbery at his establishment. Bellal Hossain had come to the area after being released on bail last week in a robbery-kidnapping case.
The victim’s family members said that at around 11 pm last night, someone broke into the back door of the house and threw something in their eyes and face. When they became unconscious, they lifted their daughter and took her to a nearby pond and brutally tortured her. The accused left after threatening her not to tell anyone. When the victim came home crying, the others in the house woke up. Then the victim told the family about the accused Bellal and Faisal. After remaining unconscious all night, the victim and her parents were taken to the hospital in an unconscious state in the morning.
In this regard, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Baufal Circle) Arif Muhammad Shakur said, “A complaint of torture has been received. The victim’s entire family is sick in the hospital. The victim’s physical examination is underway. We will take legal action in view of the family’s complaint. Two suspects in the incident have been detained.
