The attack took place in front of a medicine shop in the old bus stand area of the upazila on Tuesday (September 3, 2024) around 9:30 pm. Later, to confirm the death of the officer, they entered the Chitalmari Upazila Health Complex and attacked again. His mother and sister were seriously injured when they tried to stop the attackers. Later that night, the mother Geeta Das (60) and sister Snigdha Das (40) were sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
The injured Pranta Das is the son of Late Debendranath Das of Chitalmari old bus stand area and assistant rural development officer of Nazirpur upazila of Pirojpur district.
Sister Snigdha Das said, we had a land dispute with Faroque Munsi of Shibpur village in the upazila. Yesterday at around 9:30 pm, when he went to buy medicine in a shop in front of his house, 6-7 people who had already taken position attacked him with local weapons. Listening brother’s screams, we rushed to see the attackers throwing my brother on the regional highway and beating him. At one point the attackers fled when the villagers came running. Later the police came and rescued us and admitted him to Chitalmari Upazila Health Complex. When the police left, 20 to 25 people, led by the influential Faroque Munshi, entered the hospital and attacked.
The attackers first closed the emergency department gate and started beating my brother. When mother and I went ahead, they beat us too. After beating him, they threw him on the floor of the hospital and started kicking on the chest. We want justice for the attackers. Denying the allegations, Farooq Munshi said, “Prant Das and his tenants vandalized the house of my wife’s purchased land.” There was a problem with this. But we did not hit Pranta Das.
Chitalmari Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer (Acting) Doctor Md. Suman Talukder said, I was treating a patient named Mukta Khan in the emergency department. At that time those three patients came and they were attacked again. When I called the police, they came and brought the situation under control. We have CCTV footage. It can be given if the administration wants.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chitalmari Police Station Swapan Kumar Roy said, after receiving information at night, Pranta Das and others two were first rescued and sent to the hospital. After receiving the news of the attack on the hospital again, the police went and took control of the situation. The injured did not file any written complaint. Necessary action will be taken if complaints are received. Source: banglanews24
