Miscreants hacked to death a mobile phone trader named Sudeb Halder (28) in Krittipasha area of Sadar Upazila of Jhalakati. The incident took place in Rampur area of Krittipasha union on Monday (January 6, 2025) night. The deceased trader is the son of Subrata Halder of Betra village. He used to run a mobile phone shop in the local Baukathi market.
The deceased’s relatives and police said that around 10:30 pm, he was returning home after closing his shop when miscreants hacked and slaughtered him indiscriminately in a place called Rampur. When Sudeb did not return home at night, his relatives searched for him in various places but could not find him. Later in the morning, locals found his body lying in a crop field one kilometer away from Sudeb’s house and informed the police. On receiving the information, the police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
The deceased’s brother Sukesh Halder said that Sudeb used to live with his uncles in Kolkata since he was a child. During the Covid-19 period, he came to the country and started a business by opening a mobile phone and BKash agent shop in Baukathi Bazar in Sadar Upazila of Jhalakathi. A few days ago, he had a fight with someone over mobile servicing. It is believed that Sudeb may have been killed for this reason. He demanded exemplary punishment for those who killed Sudeb.
The deceased’s mother, Shefali Halder, said, “My son has never misbehaved with anyone, he has done nothing wrong, so why was my son killed? I want justice.” Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moniruzzaman said the businessman had several blows to the head and signs of being cut.
