A complaint has been filed at the police station against a BNP leader and several others for allegedly vandalizing a Hindu house in Sylhet city and receiving death threats against family members. OC Syed Anisur Rahman said that a complaint was filed with the Airport Police Station last night regarding the incident on Tuesday (March 18, 2025) afternoon.
Asim Kumar Das, a physically disabled person from Hajipara area of Subidbazar area of the city, alleged, “Last Tuesday afternoon, Sylhet Metropolitan Women’s Party’s Co-Organizing Secretary, Ward No. 7 Women’s Party President Jasmine Begum and her brothers Kamal Ahmed (40), Kawsar (26), Raihan Miah (25) and 4-5 unknown people threw bricks and stones and broke the window glass of my house. Then when my parents came out of the house to stop them, they went inside my house with country-made weapons and vandalized the furniture and severely beat my parents with iron pipes, hockey sticks and wooden rules. At that time, they told my parents that if they did not leave the house, they would stab and kill them at any time.”
On Saturday (March 22, 2025) afternoon, Airport Police Station OC Syed Anisur Rahman said, “I visited the place immediately after the incident. Both families are living in the garden area. There was a dispute over the road space. After Tuesday’s incident, both families filed a complaint with the police station. However, the residents of the neighborhood said that they will resolve it. The situation is normal at present.”
Sylhet Metropolitan BNP Acting President Rezaul Hasan Kayes Lodi said, “We are aware of the incident. We have heard two different things from both sides. And since BNP’s name was involved in the incident, a 5-member committee has been formed by BNP today. The committee will submit a report within three days. Then action will be taken. We are with the Hindu family, they will not have any problems.”
Ward 7 BNP president Abdul Wadud Milon, who went there after hearing the screams of Asim Kumar Das’ family members during the incident, said, “I came to Asim’s house on Tuesday after hearing the incident. A woman named BNP lives here and she attacked Asim’s house not once but three times. Earlier, Asim demolished his house to make way for a road. Then again, she marked the red area to demolish it. The real intention was to demolish Asim’s house. To occupy the place in the name of a road. We, including BNP-Jamaat, all in the neighborhood are on Asim’s side. We are on the side of the victim.”
In this regard, Rinku Chakraborty, the garden manager of Tarapur Tea Garden, said, “On the night of the 5th, the woman had erected a wall in the garden area. Last Tuesday, the locals, with the help of the garden authorities, demolished the wall. And Asim Das’ father used to work in the garden; on that basis, they were given the opportunity to live in the garden area. They have been living in the garden area for a long time by erecting a house.”
Although the phone number used by Jasmine Begum, the co-organizing secretary of the Sylhet Metropolitan Women’s Party and the president of Ward No. 7 Women’s Party, was called multiple times to get her statement on these allegations, she did not respond. Source-bangla.bdnews24.com
