
An Ashtadhatu idol, a gold crown and three gold chains were stolen by breaking the door of the Bhabatarini Kali Temple in Tushbhandar, Kaliganj Upazila, Lalmonirhat. The incident took place yesterday, Thursday (January 9, 2025). On Friday, the temple’s general secretary, Arun Kumar, filed a written complaint with the police station regarding the incident.
The temple committee and locals said that on Friday morning, the door of the temple was found broken. Later, when they went inside, they found that an Ashtadhatu idol, 3 gold chains and a crown were missing. In addition, more temple equipment including a CCTV camera were stolen. Arun Kumar Das Sangram, general secretary of the temple, said that equipment worth about 10 lakh Takas was stolen. Everyone, including the Hindu community, has suffered in this incident.
Meanwhile, upon receiving the news, Lalmonirhat Police Superintendent Md. Tariqul Islam and Upazila Executive Officer Sifat Anwar visited the scene. Kaliganj Police Station OC Selim Malik said that police have been deployed at the temple. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. The culprits will be brought to justice soon.
