
Police have recovered the body of a school-going daughter of a tea worker from Kamalganj, Moulvibazar, 12 hours after she went missing with her throat slit and her right wrist severed. The girl’s name is Purnima Reli (11). She is the daughter of Apnan Reli, a tiller number 6 of Shamsernagar Tea Garden. Purnima Reli was a fourth-grade student at Shamsernagar Primary School.
The body was recovered from the Camellia Lake of Shamsernagar Tea Garden at 8:30 am today (February 6, 2025). She went missing when she went to the field to bring cows on Wednesday afternoon.
Police and family sources said that Purnima Reli, daughter of Apnan Reli of Shamsernagar Tea Garden, left her house to bring cows from the field before Wednesday evening. But when she did not return home after evening, her family searched all night and could not find her anywhere.
On Thursday, when the family and local tea workers started searching again, they found Purnima Reli’s body, her throat and right wrist cut, under two tea trees on the Camellia Lake in Section No. 11 of Shamsernagar Tea Garden, covered in blood. Later, when the locals informed the Kamalganj Police Station, a team of police led by Sub-Inspector Ratan Kumar Halder of Shamsernagar Police Station went to the spot and recovered Purnima’s body.
The incident has sparked a commotion in the tea gardens. Hearing about the incident, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Srimangal Sakerla) Anisur Rahman, Kamalganj Upazila Executive Officer Makhon Chandra Sutradhar, and OC Syed Iftekhar Hossain visited the scene in the afternoon.
Former UP member of Shamshernagar Tea Garden Sitaram Bin said, “The family is very poor. The girl was studying. She was a fourth-grade student of Shamshernagar Tea Garden Primary School. No one can understand why this child was killed. I demand the immediate arrest of those involved in this murder.”
Kamalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Syed Iftekhar Hossain confirmed the matter and said that the body has been recovered and sent to Moulvibazar Morgue for autopsy. Police are conducting a thorough investigation to unravel the incident. Source-kalerkantho.com.
