
The Railway Police have recovered the body of an Awami League leader named Bharat Chandra Roy (48) who was run over by a train from the Haldibari area of the Parbatipur-Phulbari railway line. The Railway Police recovered his body on Tuesday (February 18, 2025) afternoon. At that time, both his hands were tied with plastic rope.
The deceased, Bharat Chandra Roy, was the organizing secretary of Chandipur Union Awami League. His home was in Kalikabari Kumar Para village of Chandipur Union. Eyewitnesses believe that he was killed or tied up and left on the railway track. Later, his head was severed from his body in a train going from Dhaka to Parbatipur. Dinajpur CID ASP Faruk Ahmed, Circle ASP Jinnah Al Mamun, DB OC Sohel Rana, Railway Police Station OC Fakrul Islam and Model Police Station OC Abdus Salam visited the scene of the incident.
Ripon Chandra, the youngest son of the deceased, said that his father Bharat Chandra Roy worked as a contract worker in the railways as a Khalasi. He was the organizing secretary of the Union Awami League. He left home for the office on Monday morning. Although he returned home in the evening every day, we found his phone switched off at around 7 pm that night. When he did not return home all night, we went to look for him in the morning and found out that someone had tied his hands with rope and killed his father and left him on the railway tracks.
He also said that his father was supposed to receive his arrears of 1.5 lakh taka on Monday. He was supposed to use that money to buy a motorcycle for his cousin’s wedding on Tuesday. Bharat Chandra’s wife Bharati Rani said, “I don’t know that my husband has any enemies. I don’t understand why he was killed like this.” My late brother-in-law’s daughter Sonamani’s wedding is next Thursday. He was supposed to go buy a motorcycle on Tuesday. Now everything is shattered.
Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Fakrul Islam said, Bharat Chandra’s body was recovered after being run over by a train on the railway line. His hands were tied with plastic ropes. The body has been recovered and sent to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital. Preparations for the case are underway. Police are working to uncover the real cause of the incident.
