A businessman’s shop was looted in Ashtagram, Kishoreganj, claiming ownership of the land. On February 7, 2025, his tenant was evicted from the shop. The victim, Manik Banik, has blamed the opponent for this. He alleges that the police played the role of a silent spectator during the looting.
Giving this information at a press conference at the public library auditorium in the district town on Thursday, March 27, 2025, he said, “We want to stay in Bangladesh, I am a citizen of Bangladesh. My motherland is everything for me. A heartfelt appeal to the chief advisor of the government, I want the safety of my family and the cooperation of everyone, including the administration.”
It was informed at the press conference that on June 19, 2000, Nitai Chandra Banik, the father of Manik Banik of Banikpara, bought the shop along with half decimal of the land in Ashtagram Bora Bazar from Abdul Hekim of Sonai Dighirpar area nearby. After the registration, they are the ones paying rent every year. The buyer Nitai Banik and the seller Abdul Hekim have died. There was never any problem with the shop while they were alive.
25 years after buying the shop, Abdul Hekim’s sons Joy Miah, Dana Miah and Waz Miah started threatening Manik Banik after the student uprising on August 5. They asked for a loan of five lakh taka. When he refused, on February 7, 2025, some terrorists took Jasim Uddin, the owner of Gram-Bangla Telecom Center, and locked the shop. When Manik went to protest, he was threatened with local weapon. He did not get any redress despite filing a complaint with the local administration and police station.
Manik alleged that on the morning of Independence Day last Wednesday, his shop was broken open and looted by his opponents. Although the police were there, they did not take any action. On the contrary, there are threats of attack on his house. Now he is in fear for his family. Source-Samakal.com.
